Board of Health
The Williams County Board of Health are representatives of all the townships in Williams County. The 9 members are appointed by the chairman of each township, mayors of each village, and the Bryan City Council.
State law requires the board to:
- report and take measures to control disease
- enforce state public health laws
- promote health and well-being within the department
- be responsible for the department’s budget
- hire and retain a health commissioner
History of the Board of Health
The Williams County Health Department was formed in 1919, as a result of a law passed by the Ohio Legislature, which required all townships and villages to merge their public health departments into a single board of health. In 1987, the Bryan City Board of Health and the Williams County General Board of Health merged to become the Williams County Combined Board of Health, creating a single health district and representative of the community and the process for the county.
